Can you spot the movement impairment? What’s actually happening and why?

Background information:

Here we have Ella who had significant hip pain 3 weeks ago after playing netball and was unable to even perform a partial squat without pain!. Ella is now pain-free and can weight bear through a squat however still lacks form due to residual weakness in her deep hip and gluteal musculature.

This is revealed when we get Ella performing a range of tasks, in particular the squat which requires glute strength and control to be performed effectively. In the second video we highlight Ella’s glutes not engaging and her hip popping out.

Netball requires a lot of jumping, pivoting and change of direction. With such a strength deficit around the hip, it would be very difficult to participate in netball without pain and discomfort.

Stay tuned for how we are going to treat Ella’s movement impairment and muscular weakness and get her back to playing netball pain free!
